TryAgain for FF3.5

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Of course, just as I decide to try Chrome for a couple of weeks, Firefox updates to 3.5 and somehow I didn’t even notice. I thought I’d already updated TA to be compatible with 3.5, but it turned out that it was only compatible to the beta release. Anyway, TA is now compatible with the new Firefox. Even tough a few glitches may occur (the layout is not as pretty as it used to be, and I haven’t tested it thoroughly yet) the new version is downloadable from this site and in a few hours time also from the official addons.mozilla.org website.
Sorry for the delay, and have fun with the new Firefox.

TryAgain, now with Firefox 3 compatibility

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Yesterday night, over a month after the release of FireFox 3, I could no longer pretend to be too busy to make TryAgain compatible. All the desperate cries for help upped the urge to come to the rescue and save the day with a new version.
New features include:

  • Firefox 3 compatibility (obviously)
  • Does not refresh the SSL Exception page
  • Stops automatic retrying when you start typing in the address bar
  • Chinese language (thanks to Mozine.cn and commenter jojo115)

TryAgain 3.1 - finally without bugs!

Monday, December 24th, 2007

Christmas holidays - finally the time to do things that really need to be done, like getting the TryAgain extension for Firefox to work in frames and iframes. No extra functionality is added in this new version, but it finally works as it should. The Russian users can now use TryAgain in their native language (thanks to Pasynok), and it is updated to work with Firefox 3.0. If there are still any bugs that I have not noticed, or if you feel like translating this extension to Italian or Chinese, don’t hesitate to drop me a line. Thanks!

TryAgain 3.0

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

Finally! After working hard on school projects I have found the time to finish TryAgain 3.0. Being a more or less complete reimplementation of the old extension, it took a lot of trial and error before all bugs were fixed. New functionality in the new version:
it keeps track of the number of times a refresh has been done and will limit that number to a user-defined maximum; it allows to hide the menu item (making your Tools menu less cluttered) and listens to the ESC key. This means that when you’re typing a new address in the address bar while TryAgain is counting down, you can press ESC to stop the countdown - making sure the page does not reload before you have finished typing. And most important of all: the infamous ’strres error’ bug from the previous versions is (hopefully) removed.

Although I have been announcing it for quite a while, the new version of TryAgain is still not finished. I have been working on it, but progress is slow as I’m also working on a number of other projects. The next version (version 3.0) will be a complete reimplementation of the extension, the biggest change being that it will keep track of the number of times a refresh has been done and will limit that number to a user-defined maximum. Furthermore it will replace rather than adapt netError.xhtml (the page built-in in Firefox that appears when a server is not found).

One of the other projects I am working on is a font administration tool named FindThatFont! (bending before the web2.0 convention of using brand names with exclamation marks and mid-word capitals). Other names that have been considered, are: ‘Font-o-meister’, ‘Frederick, your Friendly Font Filer’, ‘I Can’t Find That Goddam Font’ and ‘Go Font Yourself’.
